Kingsmen are vampires and half vamps who serve the vampire king and keep the peace between vamps, dreks, and other races living among humans hidden from common eyes. And Micah was one of the top agents of the Kingsmen... except he wanted to die, after losing one mate, then his half-mate left him as well, so he wanted some dreks to kill him... until someone interfered... Samantha "Sam", a human on the run with her own secrets. Now Micah realized he had found his destined mate and wants to live, and the dreks vowed to take what was promised them... Micah's life.I rather like this variation on the vampire lore, as it makes the creatures creepy or powerful enough but not so powerful they can't be hurt. There is even a gay romance in there, but the main plot is about Micah and Sam, and how each was transformed upon meeting each other. There is a lot of steamy sex.
What are the problems? Sam is COMPLETELY fearless. Her compassion for seeing Micah under attack was so strong, she did not even notice what was attacking Micah were NOT human, and she engaged with her puny little pistol. And yes, she will find that Micah is really a vamp. You'd imagine that a girl who met a vampire and initiated into his secret world, would react with more surprise and fear but Sam reacts more like a love-sick puppy smitten with Micah as much as Micah was smitten with her. The big "evil stalker" topic was resolved very quickly at the end. That was a huge letdown.
