Beth Mitchell and her sister India worked in the clothing factory in Lawrence MA when it burned down, leaving them with no prospect for work, and she had no choice but to offer herself up as a mail order bride, with the stipulation that her mother had to come along. Enter business owner George Montogmery. He was actually quite rich, and he needed a wife to care for two kids he suddenly inherited from his sister's family, when both his sister and her husband died of influenza. Having a grandma was a bonus to him. However, George needs to know Beth was not a golddigger, and she was deeply ashamed that she may not have been fully truthful in her ads. But together, they'll figure out the truth...There was a secondary storyline about how Beth and George may be able to buy out what's left of the factory, how the previous owner is suspected of burning down his own factory for fraud, but it felt tacked on, not that well integrated. There doesn't seem to be much of a struggle for them to come together. There just doesn't seem to be much romance there.
